Winners in Art Festival
BY contributing to ensure the triumph of Sasaran International Art Festival and winning numerous top awards in the competition, The One Academy students have successfully cultivated the passion for art among the townfolks of Sasaran.
Inaugurated in 2008, Sasaran International Art Festival is a triennial event held in the fishing village of Sasaran (Kuala Sungai Buloh) in the Kuala Selangor district.
Lecturers and students of The One Academy actively participated in this festival, where the rustic village was transformed into a lively centre of street art and sculpture, with villagers and art enthusiasts contributing passionately.
The array of attractive activities held included an art competition, an exhibition, talks by artists and a sky lantern fair.
The One Academy students were highly excited about the outdoor live sketching competition, where they chose various objects in the village as their subject matter, and won numerous awards with their outstanding artworks.
Illustration students Eik Khai Hcong won the first prize, Venessa Tang the second prize, while Robin Lim Ching Loong, Ang Hui Qing, Cyndhi Susilo, Anthony Woon Yong Jun and Chiew Xing Huei garnered the Excellent Awards, and Amanda Yow Wai Ling, Rex Lee Qi, Michelle Soon Wei Lin and Hilary Purnamasari were bestowed with Honourable Mentions.
Reminiscing about the concept of her artwork, Tang said it’s about the life and scenes of fishermen with their fishing boats berthed at the riverside, with a faded background to create the relaxing feel. Woon, with an artistic style resembling that of Picasso, was happy that all his efforts paid off and he successfully overcame all obstacles.
Chiew was delighted that she gained more confidence after the outing, and opined that one should not be afraid of being judged.
As for Robin Lim, the combina tion of good composition, good lighting and vibrant colour contrast has certainly paid off. When facing challenges, he advised students to think positively, simplify the problem and break it into steps.
“No matter how far the end of the tunnel seems, just keep walking straight. Eventually you will reach your destination.”
Adhering to the teaching philosophy of “Masters Train Masters”, The One Academy tirelessly upgrades the artistry of all students. The college also continuously updates the syllabus to suit the needs of the global market, to equip students with the latest knowledge and to facilitate the graduate’s seamless transition into the worldwide creative industry.
The Sasaran International Art Festival has benefited everyone in more ways than one; the townsfolk were instilled with the fiery passion for art, while students gained confidence and grew in experience through various meaningful activities.
With various international awards in hand, The One Academy has delivered on the pledge of “No empty promises, just worldclass results.”
